Low visibility is fixed by high visibility sharing.
Labels aren't the problem, prejudices are.
If more people would work together despite labels things would go smoother.
So, I have decided to tell the world, or at least the handful of visitors each day, What I'm doing and the hurtle that I currently face to get my idea going.
What I'm Doing:
I want to create a single online forum/wiki, with other tools and services, to help students, teachers, developers, designers and scientists learn, connect, communicate and improve the resources available to everybody.
Building contacts is a big part, and I have received nothing but positive responses, though several have been skeptical. Going through the blogsphere, LinkedIn and other methods I've collected a few interested people with the ability to get others to be involved.
The Edupunk Wiki is a temporary means to try to get people to actively help each other. However I am busy and it seems that more dedication than I'm going to put into that is needed to really get things going.
This blog, Squidoo pages, twitter and e-mail are all things I'm using to try to get an audience. It seems to be working, slowly. I'd like to be more active, but I also have school and other obligations to attend to. Plus there is the whole not burning out thing.
What I Need:
Servers, and the knowledge to set up a Media Wiki and a PHPBB3 forum. This is the big thing. I have a couple avenues I'm trying to attain some servers and help through. Hopefully one will work soon.
Contacts to help get the word out, build up a multidisciplinary community and flesh out a wiki. I'm trying to show that I am serious through my endeavors in part to be taken seriously by potential contacts. Without help, this will be a lonely and slow ride.
If anybody has questions, suggestions or thoughts on related topics, please make a comment.
Have fun, spread the word and tell me what you think,
Igen Oukan
